North Dakota Legacy
For generations the University of North Dakota has been the home of the Fighting Sioux. UND officially adopted the name of the Fighting Sioux in the 1930's. The name was chosen because it symbolized power, strength, discipline, honor, courage and pride.
The name has, and will continue to be a part of the history of the Dakotas. Regardless of any decisions made regarding the use, the name, the legacy of the Sioux deserves to be preserved with honor as part of the history of the region, state and communities.
